Emergency Radio:Giveaway

Here's a giveaway from http://selfrelianceadventures.blogspot.com/2010/01/emergency-radio-giveaway-from.html Please go check it out!

In an emergency, it's nice to know what's going on. If you're stuck in your house with the power out and a blizzard raging and the power company knew they'd have power restored to your area within two days, wouldn't you want to know? But if your power is out, how can you get news reports about your situation? There are always choices to make during and after an emergency, and knowledge about what's going on can help tremendously in the making of those decisions. And so today, for one lucky reader, we have an emergency radio to give away that does NOT require being plugged into a wall to work! These radios are a fantastic addition to your emergency kit or your car kit or just to have in your preparedness stash.

Fistful of Coupons.com

Here's a website I follow everyday (sometimes multiple times a day). I hope you take a look at it. It's wonderful! The owner of Fistful Of Coupons is having a birthday party celebration with tons of giveaways. Take a look! Here's my favorite giveaway so far:

Giveaway: You Look Nice Today Photography

The amazingly talented and creative Ryan Wilcox of

You Look Nice Today Photography

is giving away to one lucky reader a

FREE Family Sitting worth $250!!!!

This includes a full one and a half hour photo session which means you’ll never feel rushed or pressured. The sitting fee is free however any pictures or products may be purchased at the winners expense.

When you visit his website you’ll be totally impressed with his style and elegant portraits. Part of the reason could be because You Look Nice Today Photography is different from many photographers. He shoots in 100% film and doesn’t use photoshop to manipulate his images. The other reasons his portraits and subjects look so good is because his full time day job is working as a marriage and family therapist so he really tries to use what he knows to help people relax and have fun being together during the sessions.

You Look Nice Today Photography operates in
Portland, OR
and
Tri-Cities, WA.
If you are in Portland you can schedule a session anytime. He does travel to Tri-Cities area about once every other month and so if you live in Tricities you would just schedule your session for when he comes to town.

I am so in love with You Look Nice Today Photograpy! I told Ryan Wilcox I would pick like 2-3 pictures to post and clearly I have no self control. They are all so beautiful! I am so excited for whoever the winner is of this amazing giveaway.

To Enter this Giveaway go on over to You Look Nice Today Photography , look around and then come back here and tell me in a comment below which one was your favorite photo.

Example: I am so in love with The Mathews family picture where they are all sitting with their backs to us with the little baby boy looking back at us. That is the cutest picture I have ever seen!!! Seriously.

Lice!

Ok, not our most glorious moment, but I wanted to share this picture anyway. Four members of the family have lice (all girls). Three lucky members escaped the dreaded curse. This picture is of Saoirse, Emma, and Afton. On the second day of treatment I decided to put mayonnaise in our hair it rid ourselves of the lice eggs (nits). I really think it worked. At the end of day 2, so far so good. Everyone has clean hair. NOW GET BACK TO SCHOOL! Just joking. We are now (knock on wood) safe from these unwanted pests. It has been a long 2 days. We will also have to be diligent about checking our hair for the rest of the week.

Pumpkin Patch

Saoirse had her very first field trip on Monday, Oct. 19. Her kindergarten class went to a local nursery. They were able to roam around the pumpkin patch and choose any pumpkin they wanted. Note: they had to be able to carry it by themselves. Afton and I met the kindergarten classes at the nursery and I let Afton pick out a pumpkin herself. We also spent some time looking at the trees and flowers at the nursery. I remember the last time Saoirse was at this nursery. She was just over 1 yr old and at that time Emma was on her kindergarten field trip. I remember one mother freaking out at what Saoirse was doing. I turned around and there she was sitting on the ground putting rocks in her mouth. Good times!! What else is a toddler supposed to do?? I also got a really great picture of her looking at some leaves she found on the ground too. Enjoy the contrasting pictures; I know I do! She is a beautiful and fascinating girl. I love you Saoirse!

Our Vacation to Bear Lake, UT June 2009

I know I'm long overdue for a post. I needed to relearn how to get pictures off the camera again. I know, I know. This time I wrote the steps down. I hope to better in the future.

To celebrate our 15th anniversary/family summer vacation, we decided to visit somewhere new. We went to Bear Lake, UT. Wow, is it beautiful there or what?!! The color of the lake reminded me of our Caribbean cruise. Yes, it was that clear and bright blue. However, it was as cold as the Columbia River, so we didn't swim there much. The kids were fascinated by the shells that were absolutely everywhere on the beach. In fact I would say that we were walking on shells, not sand.

Some other things we did were: swimming at the resort pool, eat chocolate covered raspberries (you must visit The Chocolate Bear if you visit, yummy store), eat raspberry shakes, climb 888 steps in the Minnetonka Cave, visit the Paris Ice Caves (saw several dead rats floating there), visit Wilford Woodruff's home, and visited the Paris Tabernacle.

We had a great time and will definitely go back sometime in the future. We have to, Kaley was missing from our group since she was off at Girl's Camp (yes, it was her first year and she had a great time).

WA State Chess Tournament 2009

Keenan participated in the Washington State Elementary Chess Championship in Spokane on Saturday, April 25, 2009. Keenan, Afton, Saoirse, and I went up Friday night and spent the night in a hotel with a cool water slide and 3 indoor pools. The next morning we got up really early and after breakfast we headed over to the Spokane Convention Center. Keenan won 2 of his 5 rounds. He was sad he didn't win a trophy, but he did have a great time. He came home with a commemorative t-shirt, button, and a new kind of chess board (it comes with Chess Head cards which are used while playing chess). You'll have to ask him about that. I was amazed at how many families and kids were there, wow! They had kindergarten through fifth graders playing and there were so many people there (we filled the convention center parking lot plus some). A good time was had by all I believe.
